Despite this, the name "mountain bike" appeared in dictionaries only after almost 50 years from the production of the first model Excelsior.

The '70s is the beginning of the history of the mountain bike known today. It all started with the ban on riding a motorcycle on a hill in the United States. Then they decided to improve the already existing Excelsior construction. Then, in 1979, they began to produce "mature" mountain bikes. Who would have thought that in less than 40 years they would become so popular?

An investment in a mountain bike often exceeds several thousand zlotys. Therefore, the choice should be carefully considered, look at various parameters and then make the right decision. Mountain bike male or mountain bike for women ?

The question can be said basic. Men's and women's bikes vary in geometry, saddles and several other parameters. It is also the simplest and first decision on the way to buy your dream mountain bike.

Mountain bike - what frame?

Another important issue. Frame type and geometry have a significant impact on the purpose of the bicycle. People practicing downhill cycling need aggressive angles, a large stroke of shock absorbers and a low-mounted saddle. The most universal  ones, i.e those used in XC, have the right geometry and a low pitch allowing for riding both on the street and in the mountains. They are therefore the most common on the roads. Below are two rules depending on the size of the wheel:

  • Wheel size 26 and 27.5: the leg length should be multiplied by 0.57 and obtained in centimeters or by 0.226 to obtain the size in inches.
  • Wheel size 29: The length of the leg should be multiplied by 0.6 to get the result in centimeters or by 0.238 to get the size in inches.

Of course, it's not possible that you can not have a frame that is too big or too small. It is often found even among professional athletes, who can help in achieving a better result. However, without much experience, it is best to choose size-matched products.
